About Us

 

Formed in 2018, with the merger of The New Forest Girls Football League and The Winchester and District Girls Football League; The Hampshire Girls Youth Football League has quickly become one of the largest girls youth leagues in the country.

Our philosophy: To develop and maintain a safe, exciting and rewarding environment for girls to play regular social & competitive football. To be innovative and fair in its approach to the game. To further develop the skills of the girls with the help of their respective clubs. To actively support and promote the health and wellbeing of young players. and to maintain its passion and support for girls’ football in Hampshire.

Calendar

Our season, officially begins the first weekend in September, following schools returning after their summer break. The first fixtures of the 2025/2026 season began on Saturday, 13th September 2025, and we expect the first fixtures of the 2026/2027 season to begin on Saturday, 12th September 2026

The HGYFL schedules fixtures from September through to May, and includes both League and Cup competitions for the girls. Some teams from U12 upwards may also have entered into County Cup competitions, and where these fixtures conflict with HGYFL League fixtures, our League fixtures will be deferred to a later date.

There is usually a standard break from fixtures over both the Christmas and Easter breaks and we don't schedule games on the following dates:

  • 26th December 2026
  • 2nd January 2027
  • Easter 2027 - Tbc

Playing Formats

  • U7 - 3v3
  • U8 & U9 - 5v5
  • U10 & U11 - 7v7
  • U12 & U13 - 9v9
  • U14, U15, U16 & U18 - 11v11

U7 to U11 is non-competitive football, results and tables are not published and are classified as developmental football. 

U12 to U18 is competitive football, results and tables are published.
